Keeping Boy Styles Looking Great

Even the simplest hair styles for boys require proper care to be kept looking their best. Regular washing is essential, especially for boys active in sports or during summer months when they may play outside for hours. Dandruff or other scalp problems may be very visible with short hair styles, and parents should seek a professional consultation if a rash, redness, or scaly scalp becomes a problem.

Short styles also need to be trimmed regularly to be kept uniform, though many parents can accomplish basic trims with hair clippers at home. Some parents are even able to do home hair cuts with many basic boy styles. Boys also need to be taught how to properly care for their hair with the right shampoo, conditioner, and brushing techniques.

What are the Types of Basic Boy Hair Styles

Each boy’s particular hair cut will depend on a number of factors, including his hair texture, how active he is, and his age. Short hair styles are best for most boys, and simple styles are easiest to care for. The basic types of haircuts for boys include:

* Military Hair Cuts: These short buzzes are fast to create and style, and they will not get tangled or cause other problems no matter how active a boy is.

Side swept style.

* Spikes: Short spikey styles give a boy’s hair its own personality without getting out of control. A little hair gel can make easy spikes all over the hair or just in the front if the bangs are a little longer.
* Tapered Styles: A basic cut with tapered sideburns, bangs, and neck will blend well with a child’s delicate features while keeping his hair style fun.
* Side Swept Styles: This is a classic cut for slightly less active boys. The hair is a bit longer and parted on the side, with the longer portion swept over the top of the head and forehead in a graceful curve. This is also a great style for special occasions.
* Shag Hair Styles: A shag is a great option for slightly older boys who admire a less rigid look. Shags use different layers to create a slightly disheveled look without getting out of control.
* Long Curls: A boy with naturally curly hair may need a slightly longer hair style to add weight and help tame his locks. The hair can drop to the eyebrow or top of the ear, with layers continuing to the collar. This is longer than most boys’ hair styles, but still not unmanageable.
* Comb Down Styles: This longer style is popular for very young boys. The hair is allowed to grow to the bottom of the ear or jaw in a single, simple layer, usually parted in the middle. This is a great style for toddlers, but becomes less practical as older boys get more active and may be teased by their peers for having longer hair.

What Types of Haircuts Need for Boys?

Young boys are usually active, rambunctious, and energetic, but that energy is rarely applied to caring for a hair style. Because of this, parents need to find boy-friendly styles with the following characteristics:

* Quick and easy to cut: Boys don’t usually like to sit still for hair cuts, and finding a quick style will make the chore easier for both parents and their sons to tolerate.
* Low-maintenance styling requirements: Just as boys don’t like to wait for a hair cut, they also don’t want to take a lot of time to style their hair each day. The best haircuts for boys can be styled in less than three minutes, and may even need nothing more than a quick brushing to be ready to go.
* Durable: A good boy’s hair style will be able to withstand rough play and lots of activity without needing to be restyled.
* Versatile: While girls can frequently change styles for different events, most boy-friendly hair styles should be suitable for a wide range of situations, including school, church, visiting grandparents, taking pictures, playing sports, and attending special events.

These style requirements may make it seem like there are only a few hair styles suitable for boys, but there are actually many variations that can be used for fun and stylish looks.

How To Give Your Hair 'Beachy' Sexy glamor Waves

How to get sexy wavy hair like Jessica Simpson or Rachel Bilson (pictured). This look isn't about to go out of style anytime soon. Wavy hair is hot, hot, hot. Find out how to give yourself the red carpet look to die for.

Difficulty: Average

Time Required: 30 minutes - 1 hour, depending on length and thickness of hair

Here's How:

1. Turn upside down and spray freshly washed roots with volumizing or texturizing spray. Massage it in (stylist Garren insists the rubbing motion creates body and texture). I like Bumble and Bumble or you can try Aveda volumizing tonic .
2. If hair is naturally coarse or curly, work a straightening balm through hair. Here's a great list of balms.
3. Brush hair (this works the product evenly through hair). Blowdry hair straight, starting at the roots to get extra volume. Hair must be completely dry for this look to work. Blow cold air at the roots to add volume (cold air locks in a style).
4. Separate hair into three sections, securing with a ponytail holder. (It's easier this way to curl your way through each section).
5. To curl hair, use a wide-barrel curling iron. Starting with one section, take a 1-inch portion of hair, spritz it with styling spray (again, I love Bumble and Bumble Styling Spray) or hairspray. Wrap hair around the barrel of the curling iron. (Wrapping hair is different from the traditional curling method. You don't want to 'clip' hair into the barrel. Wrapping allows you to curl all the way to the root). When you're curling, make sure to leave ends loose to avoid a crimp mark.
Release the curl after about 5-10 seconds (hold longer if you want a tighter curl). You should have a corkscrew curl.
6. Roll curl and bobby pin it close to the scalp. (I'm lazy, so I skip this step to save time).
7. Alternate the direction of the curl as you work your way through each section. (It's all in the direction you wind hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Start by placing hair on top of the barrel and wrapping around, then switch by putting the barrel on top of the hair before winding it around). Alternating directions makes curls look more natural. Some curls can remain tight, some loose.
8. Once pinned curls have cooled, release them.
9. Remove nozzle from dryer and gently loosen waves with cool air. You can also separate curls with your fingers, just make sure not to brush them out.
10. To add shine, spritz a hair serum . Stylist David Babaii finger-combs Biosilk Silk Therapy serum into actress Kate Hudson's hair (May 2007, InStyle). You can forego hair serum and spritz with saltwater spray. I like John Frieda Beach Blonde Ocean Waves Sea spray.
11. Set with hairspray. Just don't overdo it, you don't want new waves to feel "crunchy."

What You Need:

* Volumizing spray
* Straightening balm (if you have thick, course hair)
* Hair dryer
* A 1-inch barrel curling iron
* Ponytail holder and bobby pins
* Shine serum
* Hairspray
* Saltwater spray

Wavy hair styles

A wavy hairstyle is one in which the hair bends and curves in soft, open wave-like formations. Natural waves are genetically determined in each individual and can change due to factors such as time, health, hormones, medication as well as certain cutting techniques because they determine how much weight is pulling down on the hair shaft.

Method
Wavy hair needs to be cut and groomed by a trained hairstylist. Shaping and weight determination can make or break any particular look. Wavy hairstyles can also be achieved with naturally straight hair types by using chemicals and rollers (and rearranging the inner structure of the hair).

Benefits
Wavy hairstyles can be styled straight with the use of blow-dryers, straighteners, and styling aids, and by adjusting the weight through the layers (longer, heavier layers create weight and reduce waves while more layers reduce weight and increase bounce).

Beware
If you want a smoother, straighter result, beware of short layers. Also razor-cuts can be a problem because they can make shorter hair wispy in the mid-lengths and appear frizzy.

Tips
There are lots of wavy hairstyles to choose from, and with a good consultation you should find something that complements your features and attributes.

How to Style Wavy Hair

Straightening and blowdrying your hair is fine, but it can be damaging. Here is a heat-free, curler-free, easy, beautiful style especially for wavy hair!

Steps

1. Shampoo and condition your hair in the shower as usual.
2. Towel off hair but be gentle. Rubbing can cause split ends and frizz. Do not brush or comb your hair!
3. Once the soaking-wetness is gone from your hair, mess it up with your fingers and put it in the loosest, highest and sloppiest bun you can make. Spray with a weak gel hairspray, like Garnier Fructis Curl Shaping Spray Gel.
4. Leave it alone until you are sure it is dry.
5. Take it down and use your fingers or a hair pick if your hair is tangled. Spray again with gel spray, but remember that this is not quite the same as scrunching.
6. That's it! If your hair still has some frizz, apply a smoothing gel or serum.

Tips

* Some nice products might come in handy. Since wavy hair can be dry, I use TreSemme for Dry/Damaged Hair shampoo. Any quality conditioner is fine. Again, the best spray gel is a regular strong hold bottle of Garnier Fructis style Curl Shaping Spray gel.
* If you must blow-dry, use the cool setting. Remember, the whole point of this is to give your hair a break from heat styling.
* Medium to very wavy hair is best for this, but it'll work on straight hair if you use lots of hairspray instead of spray gel. (Or a super-strong spray gel)
* A good smoother is Alberto V05 Smooth! Smoothing Souffle

Things You'll Need

* Nice shampoo and conditioner
* Spray gel or weak hairspray
* [optional] Blow dryer with a cool setting(if you are in a hurry)
* [optional] A smoothing serum or gel

A wavy hair type is often considered the most desirable. It has lots of natural movement that can be maximized with hairstyling products, and can be blown dry into a straight hair look or scrunched for a curly hair effect. Waves make lightly layered hair looks a natural choice. Adding hair highlights or hair lowlights via hair color or shine-enhancing products, can maximize the appearance of wavy hair's gentle undulation. The wavy hair type can also be combed into retro hair styles, 20's looks—very romantic!

Straight hair styles

Your hair type can range from the fine blond hair of Scandinavians to the thick, sometimes coarse hair of Asians and Indians. It can be texturized with perms, hair setting, and hair care products. Thin straight hair often benefits from being colored, which adds texture and fullness to each strand.

Very coarse or thick straight hair may be difficult to perm, requiring extra time and additional perming rods for the proper final look. Simple, geometric haircuts like bobs, are a natural for straight hair of any texture. Very straight, thick hair is often resistant to perms-stubborn about taking a curl and likely to need frequent perming to maintain hair's new texture.

Gorgeous Hairstyles For All Hair Types

Just about every woman knows how to fix simple hairstyles like a bun, a braid or a ponytail.

If you can manage these simple (but usually pretty boring) hairstyles, then with a few twists on these well known hairstyles, you can have a gorgeous hairstyle that will turn heads.

A Cute Flip-Through For All Occasions

For the first hairstyle I'll teach you, you start with an ordinary ponytail. I love this hairstyle, which is a really cute ponytail that is extremely easy to make. Make sure the ponytail you make is a high one. Loosen the ponytail just slightly so that it hangs a little lower.

Now, using your fingers, part your hair in the center, starting from your crown and ending at the nape of your neck. You should be sure to divide the hair underneath the ponytail as well as above it.

Then push your thumbs up from the nape of your neck through the part you've created in your hair. Hang your head upside down for a second, flipping your ponytail over. Hook your thumbs around the base of your ponytail and push it upwards to the nape of your neck.

Once a good sized loop of hair is pushed through, grab it with your hand and pull it all the way through. Now turn your head right side up again and carefully comb your hair together just above the ponytail to make a neat finish.

A Gorgeous Tuck For Special Dates And Occasions

This next beautiful hairstyle starts the same way as the flip through I just taught you... with a high ponytail. First you make a part down the middle of your head (like you did for the flip through) only you end AT the ponytail, leaving a good layer of hair under the ponytail untouched.

Then you pull the sections of hair apart above the ponytail creating a "pocket." Fold the entire ponytail up and gently tuck it down into the pocket, distributing the hair as even as possible.

Push the elastic ponytail band down into the pocket as well, so that it is hidden from view. If you find this to be hard loosen the ponytail a little more.

Now, just comb your hair carefully over the part you made earlier. Try using a bobby pin or barrette to pull your hair together just above the pocket. If your plastic band tends to show, a barrette will also help to hide it.

A Sexy Hairstyle You Can Wear While Mountain Biking

Yet another of my favorite hairstyles is one that is a variation on the braid, and is rightfully called "the rope." To make this hairstyle you start with a ponytail that you've divided into 3 even sections.

Twist the right most section of hair to the right, and cross it over both of the other sections. Repeat this, always twisting the farthest right section to the right and crossing it over the other two sections until your "rope" is the length you desire.

Then secure your hairstyle with a scrunchie or elastic ponytail band once you've finished.

Master these hairstyles and you'll never be stuck wondering what "do" you should wear today. But better yet, you won't be stuck with the same drab hairdo everyday.

Mobile Phone History 1973 to 2007

Hi Friend i have listed Mobile Phone history from 1973 to 2007

1973

Motorola touts a prototype of the world's first mobile cellular phone, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. It's more than a foot long, weighs nearly 2 pounds and sells for $4,000. However, it wasn't commercially available until a decade later.

1982

Finnish handset maker Nokia introduces its first mobile phone, the Nokia Mobira Senator. The device looks very much like a portable radio and it weighs a whopping 21 pounds. Yikes.

1993

BellSouth/IBM unveil the world's first mobile phone with PDA features, including phone and pager functionality, calculator and calendar applications, as well as fax and e-mail capability. The BellSouth/IBM Simon Personal Communicator weighs 21 ounces and sells for $900.

1996

Motorola debuts its StarTAC mobile phone, merging fashion and functionality into the cell phone. It weighs 3.1 ounces--light by even today's standards--and it is a clam shell device.

2000

Kyocera introduces its QCP6035 mobile phone, the very first widely available Palm OS-based phone. It costs between $400 and $500 but only included 8MB of memory.

2001

Before Palm acquired Handspring, the company released its Handspring Treo 180 cellular phone, which came in two versions. The Treo 180 was available with a QWERTY keyboard as well as in a separate version with text input method called Graffiti.

2002

The Danger Hiptop, which later became known as the T-Mobile Sidekick, hits the mobile space. It is one of the first mobile devices to include a quality Web browser, reliable e-mail access and instant messaging, as well a unique swiveling form factor. (PCWorld.com later went on to name the device its 2003 product of the year.)

The BlackBerry 5810 hits the market in 2002, and though it's not the first BlackBerry, it's the first such device from Research In Motion (RIM) to include voice functionality--though a headset is required because it doesn't have an external microphone or speaker.

Sanyo and Sprint make the Sprint SCP-5300 PCS available, and both companies claim it's the first mobile phone in the United States to include a digital camera. Image quality is, however, less than impressive.

2004

Motorola announces its RAZR v3 cell phone and starts a trend toward ultra-thin, stylish phones that's still influencing mobile device manufacturers today. The RAZR v3 is a "cool" device that everyone, from high schoolers to businessmen, wants. It's still one of the most popular mobile phones, and its one of the few handsets offered by the majority of major cellular carriers.

2006

RIM, known for its high-end business phones and reliable "push" e-mail technology, makes its first foray into the consumer space with the BlackBerry Pearl 8100. The device is the first from RIM to include a digital camera and media player and it's also the smallest, thinnest BlackBerry--currently, the company's 8800 series of devices are the thinnest it offers. (Read CIO.com's review for more on the BlackBerry Pearl.)

2007

Apple releases the iPhone, a beautifully designed device that includes an innovative--and much hyped up--touch screen navigation interface, which doesn't require the use of a stylus. The device is available exclusively through AT&T in the United States, and it comes in a 4GB version for $499 and an 8GB version for $599.

Mobile Phone Birthday - History of Mobile Phone

Hi friend here are listed the hierarchy of Mobile phone innovation.

Nowadays, mobile phone is one of the most essential things of people. It takes much convince for people. The technology of mobile phone is increase rapidly everyday. Form 1st generation up to now, people want to build up a mobile

1G

1G (First Generation) is the name given to the first generation of mobile telephone networks. These systems used analogue circuit-switched technology, with FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access), and worked mainly in the 800-900 MHz frequency bands. The networks had a low traffic capacity, unreliable handover, poor voice quality, and poor security.

1G - First Generation mobile phone networks were the earliest cellular systems to develop, and they relied on a network of distributed transceivers to communicate with the mobile phones. First Generation phones were also analogue, used for voice calls only, and their signals were transmitted by the method of frequency modulation. These systems typically allocated one 25 MHz frequency band for the signals to be sent from the cell base station to the handset, and a second different 25 MHz band for signals being returned from the handset to the base station. These bands were then split into a number of communications channels, each of which would be used by a particular caller.

2G

2G - Second Generation mobile telephone networks were the logical next stage in the development of wireless systems after 1G, and they introduced for the first time a mobile phone system that used purely digital technology. The demands placed on the networks, particularly in the densely populated areas within cities, meant that increasingly sophisticated methods had to be employed to handle the large number of calls, and so avoid the risks of interference and dropped calls at handoffs. Although many of the principles involved in a 1G system also apply to 2G - they both use the same cell structure - there are also differences in the way that the signals are handled, and the 1G networks are not capable of providing the more advanced features of the 2G systems, such as caller identity and text messaging.

In GSM 900, for example, two frequency bands of 25 MHz bandwidth are used. The band 890-915 MHz is dedicated to uplink communications from the mobile station to the base station, and the band 935-960 MHz is used for the downlink communications from the base station to the mobile station. Each band is divided into 124 carrier frequencies, spaced 200 kHz apart, in a similar fashion to the FDMA method used in 1G systems. Then, each carrier frequency is further divided using TDMA into eight 577 uS long "time slots", every one of which represents one communication channel - the total number of possible channels available is therefore 124 x 8, producing a theoretical maximum of 992 simultaneous conversations. In the USA, a different form of TDMA is used in the system known as IS-136 D-AMPS, and there is another US system called IS-95 (CDMAone), which is a spread spectrum code division multiple access (CDMA) system. CDMA is the technique used in 3G systems.

2.5G

2.5G (Second Generation Enhanced) is a generic term used to refer to a standard of wireless mobile telephone networks that lies somewhere between 2G and 3G. The development of 2.5G has been viewed as a stepping-stone towards 3G, which was prompted by the demand for better data services and access to the Internet. In the evolution of mobile communications, each generation provides a higher data rate and additional capabilities, and 2.5G is no exception as it is provides faster services than 2G, but not as fast or as advanced as the newer 3G systems.

Some observers have seen 2.5G as an alternative route to 3G, but this appears to be short-sighted as 2.5G is several times slower than the full 3G service. In technical terms 2.5G extends the capabilities of 2G systems by providing additional features, such as a packet-switched connection (GPRS) in the TDMA-based GSM system, and enhanced data rates (HSCSD and EDGE).

These enhancements in 2.5G systems permit data speeds of 64-144 kbps, which enables these phones to feature web browsing, the use of navigation and navigational maps, voice mail, fax, and the sending and receiving of large email messages.

3G

3G - Third Generation mobile telephone networks are the latest stage in the development of wireless communications technology. Significant features of 3G systems are that they support much higher data transmission rates and offer increased capacity, which makes them suitable for high-speed data applications as well as for the traditional voice calls. In fact, 3G systems are designed to process data, and since voice signals are converted to digital data, this results in speech being dealt with in much the same way as any other form of data. Third Generation systems use packet-switching technology, which is more efficient and faster than the traditional circuit-switched systems, but they do require a somewhat different infrastructure to the 2G systems.

Compared to earlier mobile phones a 3G handset provides many new features, and the possibilities for new services are almost limitless, including many popular applications such as TV streaming, multimedia, videoconferencing, Web browsing, e-mail, paging, fax, and navigational maps.

Japan was the first country to introduce a 3G system, which was largely because the Japanese PDC networks were under severe pressure from the vast appetite in Japan for digital mobile phones. Unlike the GSM systems, which developed various ways to deal with demand for improved services, Japan had no 2.5G enhancement stage to bridge the gap between 2G and 3G, and so the move into the new standard was seen as a solution to their capacity problems.

It is generally accepted that CDMA is a superior transmission technology, when it is compared to the old techniques used in GSM/TDMA. WCDMA systems make more efficient use of the available spectrum, because the CDMA technique enables all base stations to use the same frequency. In the WCDMA system, the data is split into separate packets, which are then transmitted using packet switching technology, and the packets are reassembled in the correct sequence at the receiver end by using the code that is sent with each packet. WCDMA has a potential problem, caused by the fact that, as more users simultaneously communicate with a base station, then a phenomenon known as “cell breathing” can occur. This effect means that the users will compete for the finite power of the base station’s transmitter, which can reduce the cell’s range – W-CDMA and cdma2000 have been designed to alleviate this problem.

The operating frequencies of many 3G systems will typically use parts of the radio spectrum in the region of approximately 2GHz (the IMT-2000 core band), which were not available to operators of 2G systems, and so are away from the crowded frequency bands currently being used for 2G and 2.5G networks. UMTS systems are designed to provide a range of data rates, depending on the user’s circumstances, providing up to 144 kbps for moving vehicles (macrocellular environments), up to 384 kbps for pedestrians (microcellular environments) and up to 2 Mbps for indoor or stationary users (picocellular environments). In contrast, the data rates supported by the basic 2G networks were only 9.6 kbps, such as in GSM, which was inadequate to provide any sophisticated digital services.

4G

As the limitation of the 3G, people are try to make new generation of mobile communication, this is the 4th generation. This 4G system is more reliable,

Nowadays, some companies have started developing the 4G communication system, this technology can have a high uplink rate up to 200Mbps, more data can transfer in the mobile phone. So the 4G mobile can have more function such as work as the television. Some telecommunication companies claimed that they would applied this 4G system to the business and it will bring more convenience to people.

Advantages and Disadvantages Of A Cell Phone - Do You Know?

Nowadays, cell phones are very popular. Nearly each of us have it. We like talking on cell phones, sending SMS, playing games etc. But is that a good way to communicate?

To start with, with cell phones we can communicate with others wherever we are. If necessary, we can ask someone for help any minute now.

Secondly, cell phones can help us with organize our daily plans. They can remind us of meetings, duties etc. They can also help us with our work ( calculator, currency converter etc.).

Also, they are information sources. From Internet, WAP or new EraOmnix we can read news from country and world, sport news, interesting facts and other.

Thirdly, they can give us some entertainment with phone games, WAP and SMS games.

A cell phone is a good item to have for anyone that travels or is constantly away from home or office. They can keep you in touch with the office, as well as emergency personal. It isn't difficult to set up your first cell phone.

They can also be inexpensive to purchase. To see the cost of phones it is best to contact a cellular phone dealer. Once you have picked out a cell phone, the next step is to pick out a cell phone plan that is right for you. You will have to purchase a cell phone from the same carrier in order for it to work on their network. Some of the plans are for an individual or you may purchase a cellular phone family plan. In the family plan, you are able to connect everyone in your family.

They will be able to use their cell phone to contact anyone else on the plan usually for free or at discount rate. You can be well informed on the day-to-day activities of each and every person in your family. With a family plan, you are able to contact everyone and keep billing hassles at a minimum. These plans are good when you have teenagers or young adults traveling back and forth with friends or even at college.

For experienced cell phone users, it is nice to be able to contact anyone at any time of the day or night. With your cell phone you can move away or go on vacation and seem like your not even gone. Most cell phones can even forward your email, instant messages and other phone numbers to your mobile phone line. This is a great feature for when checking your computer is not an option.

Some people consider their cell phone an image of themselves. Cell phones have taken on a role of fashion in their own sense because they come in several colors, sizes and have options to personalize them. Cell phone users have a lot of options on their phone that they can change to customize the phone to their liking.

By changing certain settings on your phone, you are able make your phone unique. Some of the options that can be changed include the wallpaper, ring tones and fonts. In order to get personalized ring tones and wallpapers you will have to download them for a small fee.

While you are able to stay connected with your friends, work, and family, you can also do it in style. Give your cell phone a personalized touch. Cell phones have become increasingly popular and have become a necessity for most.

On the other hand, everybody can find us. In the long run it is very annoying. Also connections costs more money than in stationary phones.

Also, cell phones are harmful to our health, because they create radiation ( from phone receiver ).

In conclusion, I think that although cell phones have their weak points, they are very usable and necessary. In my opinion this is a good way to communicate.

Ways of Love your Mobile - Do Love, Entertain, Fun and a Lot

(1) Upgrade to a diamond-encrusted, million-dollar GoldVish phone. Conspicuous consumerism at its best. GoldVish is a must-have for all you multi-millionaires out there. Over 100 carats in diamonds and white gold throughout. Wow. That’s hot. If Paris Hilton doesn’t already have this phone, I guarantee she will by the winter. If you can’t afford a GoldVish, go for the much more affordable Vertu (though it’s no cheapie with a base price of $800). What’s that you say, your long-term cell contract is the only thing keeping you from buying one of these babies? Celltradeusa.com offers a get out of your cellphone contract free card…for a small fee. But if you’re rich enough to afford either the GoldVish or Vertu phones, you probably don’t care anyway.

(2) Go full screen. Nokia is developing a ridiculously sexy new phone called the “aeon” which uses a full touch screen over the entire surface of the phone. [Engadget via Mobility Site] Basically the entire surface of the phone turns into a touch screen when in use, and then back to generic looking plastic when not. It’s ingenious.

(3) Find yourself. Get GPS. It’s expected that the number of cell phone subscribers with GPS services will reach 315 million by 2011. Here’s an example of a Nokia handset with GPS. GPS is this year’s in-phone MP3 service, or last year’s camera phone technology. Expect almost every phone manufacturer to include some form of GPS in their newest phones in 2007. In fact, the competition for having the best GPS technology among phone companies has already begun as Nokia recently signed a deal with GPS giant Trimble.

(4) Grab your 15 seconds of fame. Enter a cameraphone art contest. Keep in mind that Andy Warhol actually said, very cynically, that everyone will have their 15 seconds of fame, not 15 minutes.

(5) Project yourself. This could be taken two ways: get a screen projector for your cell phone, or a phone with 3D images. The projector idea won’t be useful for most people, especially for $400. But if you’re really into gadgets, there’s no better way to make a statement at a party than with a projection screen shooting out from your cell. By contrast, the 3D images I’m digging. I predict that everyone is going to want this technology; unfortunately they aren’t exactly available yet.

(6) Get mobile VoIP service. VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, is a new form of telephony where a call is carried over the Internet. With PDA cellphones coming into the mainstream, millions of people already have broadband Internet access via their phones. So taking the next step to using your cell to make free VoIP calls is already possible, and its only a matter of time before it goes mainstream. In fact, if you have a cellular data plan, you might already have access to mobile VoIP (although not all providers allow it). Mobile VoIP is relatively new, but depending on your phone and provider, some of your choices are Mino Wireless, EQO Mobile, iSkoot, Fring, SoonR, and Skype for PocketPC (specific handsets). There are also a few more technologies like Talkster, that are still being developed. If you’re a tech-junkie, you’ll want to follow VoIP and cell-phone integration for the next few months, because when this hits the mainstream, its going to be huge.

(7) Get mobile TV service. It’s not for everyone, but the number of people subscribing to TV broadcasts over their mobile phone/ PDA is increasing. That’s because reviews consistently say that the quality is excellent and at $9.95 per month it is within almost everyone’s price range.

(8) Get mobile radio. There are new mobile radio services forming, including Motorola iRadio, which features 600+ channels of National Public Radio music programming. CD quality at that. I expect this to be really popular in cities where commuters rely on public transit, because people will be able to get the daily news without having to carry an extra pocket radio.

(9) Unlimited cellular data plan. If you’re planning on browsing the Internet with your cell phone, listening to streaming music, or using mobile VoIP or mobile TV (see above), then you need not only need a cellular data plan (aka cellular wireless), but an “unlimited” monthly bandwidth account. Just make sure that “unlimited” means unlimited, as some providers cap monthly data bandwidth at 250 Megabytes, others at 10 Gigabytes. To get an idea, a video might be 50 Mb. So 250 Mb doesn’t take you very far. In case you’re interested, almost every provider is offering these unlimited plans, and they will typically run you about $60-$80 per month.

(10) Add a Wi-Fi card. Some smart phones and PDAs have a slot where you can insert memory or other modules. If you don’t want to get an expensive cellular data plan, you can access the Internet on your phone using Wi-Fi as long as you are near a Wi-Fi network. In fact, Motorola recently introduced a model where the wifi connectivity was actually built in to the phone.

(11) Setup a Bluetooth headset or earpiece (or sunglasses!). These are great if you tend to move around in a room a lot. You can also tuck your cell phone in your pocket and answer your calls through the headset. If you’re out in public and feel silly wearing a headset, try an earpiece, which tucks into and around your ear. Bluetooth headsets/ earpieces are also great for using VoIP on your desktop or laptop computer, provided that they are Bluetooth-enabled. If you feel like splurging, there’s the Motorola Razrwire Bluetooth-enabled sunglasses from Oakley, for roughly $200-300. A great accessory for someone on the go, particularly athletes.

(12) Get/make a ringtone. Ringtones are a multi-billion dollar market today. Individually, they’re pretty expensive considering that you’re rarely getting a full song. So if you’re the DIY sort, make your own ringtones. If you use Audacity to record, the software is free and easy to use. So scour through your collection of music and create your own custom tones. Just make sure you don’t try to sell them if you didn’t write the songs yourself, else you may have to call home. Hello Dad? I’m in jail. Just kidding.

(13) Buy and sell your own ringtones through your mobile. If you’re more of a leader than a follower, especially if you have a geeky bone or two in your body, you’ve probably already made your own ringtones (see above), phone wallpaper, and other mobile content. If not, MyNuMo provides web-based tools to do that very thing. What’s sexy about that? You can sell your creations on your own NumoMedia site, or via SMS, with MyNuMo handling all the distribution and transactions for your little company. Imagine your tones, papers and videos on your friends phones, their friends’ phones… the mind - and wallet - boggles.

(14) Make your cell phone squeal. After all the investment you’ve put into your phone to sexy it up, the last thing you want is for it to be stolen. So get your hands on Remote XT, an application that makes your phone scream if it’s stolen. It stores all your crucial data online, and if the phone is stolen, RemoteXT wipes the databank clean so that the thief can’t use it. When you recover the phone (or switch to a new one), you can restore all your contacts and other data.

(15) Pay with your cell phone. A number of newer phones are being tested in various parts of the world, including sports stadiums, which use a technology called contactless payment. Contactless payment comes in several forms including smart cards, key fobs, and now cell phones. Basically, you wave the phone near a special reader, and the appropriate amount of money is transferred from your account. Contactless payment uses a technology known as RFID, or Radio Frequency IDentification, which is at the cutting-edge of Mobile technology. This technology is just coming on to the market, but RFID contactless pay looks like it could be the next big thing.

(16) Pay with your cell phone, part 2. Paypal, an online payments processor, lets you send payment to people via your cell phone. After registering for a free account at Paypal, you can activate the mobile payment option. To get money into or out of your account, you can “add” either or both of a bank account or credit card. (You can also get paid from Paypal by check.) When you want to make a payment with Paypal on your mobile, you can send an SMS text message to Paypal, specifying the person who is being paid, either by their Paypal account name (email) or their phone number. They will have to be registered with Paypal as well.

(17) Go green. Use your mobile in an environmentally friendly way. Cellphones (and many other electronic devices) are generally manufactured with toxic chemicals which create disposal issues. If you want to do your part to ensure that there will be a next generation, you should consider joining the efforts of companies and organizations who are developing cell-phone disposal options that will help make the next generation of mobile technology more “green.” The consortium isn’t just a paper tiger; Nokia’s phones, for instance, have not contained polyvinyl chloride (PVC) “for the past year”, and the company expects to fully stop using components with brominated flame retardants (its motherboards are now BFR-free) “by early next year.” Want to make a difference now? Unplug your charger after using it; your planet will thank you.

(18) Go batteryless. Go green, part 2. The Aimulet LA is a new type of communication device that is made of bamboo and has no battery. Instead, they phone is powered by spherical solar cells, which are are ecologically-friendly and activated by light.

(19) Make a custom skin. There are tons of vinyl, stick-on skins offered by Skinit.com. But even with all the categories and designs they offer, the company knows that the ultimate in personalization is… personal. Photo-upload capability is provided, meaning that you can create your own one-of-a-kind skins from your own digital or scanned photographs. The skins — whether chosen from the many graphic designs or whether designed from your photo — cost $14.95. For your techie friends, think about customized skins as a gift idea; the site sells PIN card codes (one code = one skin) you can give to friends and family, and let them design their own style. If skin isn’t your thing, how about fur? Fun Friends uses “cutting edge plush technology” to bring you cute cat, dog, monkey, mouse — and a host of other — covers for both bar-type and flip-style phones. These furry covers usually cost under 10 dollars each, and they can be combined with a matching $2.99 keychain/ backpack accessory for the full look.

(20) Fix unsightly blemishes. If your phone’s display looks like an icerink after a hockey game or two, you may be interested in Displex Display Polish, an inexpensive product which removes scratches.

(21) Surf the web, even with an old, cheap phone. Don’t let not having a smartphone or PDA prevent you from Internet content surfing. Opera Mini, the software of the Opera web browser has been developed for all WAP-enabled phones, is now in its second release. Version 2.0 enables browser skins, “speed-dial” bookmarks, and rich-content (such as MP3s) downloading. What will it look like (and how will it work) when you’ve installed it? Check out the simulator on the Opera Mini website. Find out more about the mobile web, and the .mobi domain.

(22) Create an IM-like away message for callers and texters. Jaiku lets your friends know where you’re at, and whether you can respond to their calls and text messages. Very much still in beta, the application publishes your

… IM-style away line, your phone profile (ring volume, vibrate), location (country, city/region, neighborhood), Bluetooth devices around, upcoming calendar events, and the amount of time your phone has been idle.” (from the Jaiku blog)

Certainly worth investigating, the service currently works only on Symbian-enabled Nokia Series 60 Second Edition phones, and moves a lot of data. If your carrier charges data traffic by the kilobyte, you may wish to pass on this.

(23) Chase teens away without bugging the adults around you. The discovery that an irritating, high-pitched sound that kids and teens can hear but cannot be heard by adults has led to interesting applications. Used by adults via loudspeakers to disperse unruly packs of teenagers from malls, the ‘Mosquito’ sound has been adapted by teens into ‘Teen Buzz’ - a ringtone adults can’t hear. With students’ texting alerts set to Teen Buzz, teachers will need eagle eyes to catch cheaters. If you’re a parent, the sound can be used to de-child the TV room prior to mature programming. With the spread of the ringtone into mobile phones, the technology is certain to find other mobile applications such as a chemical free bug repellant that emanates from your phone.

(24) Gambling through your mobile. Imagine if all the time you spend waiting - waiting for dates, buses, and airplanes, could be spent doing something fun. Something like playing games and winning cash for instance. Mobile gambling has been around for a few years now, and its spreading quickly. As noted by Impact Lab — if you’re a UK-based mobile phone user between 20 and 35, there’s a 50 per cent chance you’ve already tried mobile gambling. Established poker sites like PokerRoom.com provide real mobile poker play for mobiles. Just make sure you don’t lose your online poker bankroll and that online gambling is legal in your country.

(25) Upload videos to YouTube. If you’re not into cameraphone art contests (see item #4 above), maybe you want to share your video masterpiece with the world at YouTube (now owned by Google). YouTube allows mobile uploads which means that you can touch up your videos and pictures without having to start up the computer.

(26) Connect your laptop to the Internet with your cell. If you have a cellular wireless plan (see item #9 above) for your cell phone, you can use your wireless plan to hook up your laptop (or desktop) to the Internet. This is usually called “dial-up networking” and there are a couple of ways you can do it, depending on your phone: either with a special USB cable or using Bluetooth. Engadget tells you how to connect a Pocket PC phone, but the process is similar for most phones.

(27) Watch time-shifting mobile TV. If you don’t want to pay for expensive mobile TV broadcasts (see item #7 above), you can also watch content that you’ve recorded onto your hard drive. One option is TivoToGo Mobile, another is Orb. Your ability to use either service may vary by where you live, but assuming you can use the service, you can watch your fave shows on the go. Orb also lets you access your photos, audios, and other video content download from elsewhere. Orb is free, TivoToGo Mobile requires specific equipment.

(28) Boost your call signal. Stop dropped calls by boosting your cell signal through a personal amplifier. A antenna setup for a single cell phone will run you only $200, whereas an antenna for all the calls made in your house or car will cost you closer to $400. Either way, this is a great way to eliminate once and for all the ‘dead spots’ in your home, car, or any other building.

(29) Blog from your phone. Have a weblog and want to post to it on the go? TypePad Mobile and other web services let you do this. TypePad Mobile works with Palm OS 5, Windows Mobile 5, and Symbian Series 60 phones/ PDAs (at the time of this writing).

(30) Add some input. If you are planning to blog from your phone/ PDA, typing up stuff is much easier with a fold-out portable keyboard. Almost every smartphone and PDA has a compatible keyboard available.

(31) Mess with NoMess. A fun yet challenging game is NoMess (or PalmGear), which is sort of a combination of othello, go/ gomoku, and chess. It’s super-addictive, and will make any long airport or traffic delay pass really quickly. It can actually function as a stress-reliever but the game requires patience and forethought. Unfortunately, it’s only for the Palm OS platform (any PalmOS-based phone/ PDA, not just Palm devices).

(32) Play Quake. You’ll need a Nokia N93 phone, but with it, you can actually play Quake online. Yes, that means actually playing with and against other players around the world, all from your cell phone. Pretty awesome.

(33) Get a Mobal world phone. Anyone who travels around the world knows what a pain it is to try to call home. Mobal solves all of this by offering a mobile that works anywhere in the world. This is a great gift for the world traveler, whether that’s you or a friend or family member. There are two packages, including the 140-countries and 160-countries plans. The latter includes US service. Both packages include a lifetime phone number that works in all of the countries where you have service.

10. iPhone: Keeping the favorites screen open allows you to unlock the screen then dial with three motions
11. iPhone: The home button can be used to access unlocking instead of sleep wake
12. iPhone: To use the CAPS LOCK feature, make sure it is enabled in the General Settings. To use it, simply double-tap on the shift key. The shift key will turn blue
13. Google Maps: Typing in the three letter airport code while in maps will bring the airport up on the map. So if you are trying to view a map of say Renton, WA. Typing SEA (or sea) will bring up the Seattle airport. It's relatively quick to zoom out, recenter over Renton, and zoom in again. It seems to recognize all primary and secondary US airports and many overseas airports as well.
14. A link to find airport codes: http://www.orbitz.com/App/global/airportCodes.jsp#USK
15. Safari: When you've scrolled down to the bottom of a page, and you want to go back to the top- just tap on the top bar of the phone (where "AT&T" and the time are) and the page jumps right back up to the beginning
16. Safari: Doesn't provide scroll bars for text area form fields and scrollable areas in a text page. An example of this is the field I'm using to type this message in. Dragging a single finger on the page scrolls the page. If you want to scroll one of the areas I just described, use two fingers
17. Safari: To email a page to someone tap on the address bar. The Share button on the top left will create a message for you!
18. Safari: Page down. When not using a zoomed-in display, double-tap towards the bottom of the screen. The page will re-center around your tap. Make sure not to tap a link!
19. Safari: Jump to the top. Double-tap the very top of the screen, just below the time display to pop back to the top of the page
20. Safari: Zoom onto a single picture. Double-tapping images in Safari zooms them to fit your iPhone display. If the picture is linked to a URL, this can prove a little tricky but it works great for non-linked images. Double-tap again to return to the unzoomed display.

21. Safari: Zoom a column. You can zoom text columns as well as pictures. Double-tap on the column to fit it to the display. Double-tap again to return out of the zoom. Not only does Safari zoom block-quoted text independently of regular text but if you move your finger after the first double-tap-to-fit, it interprets the next double-tap as a re-center page command rather than a return-to-previous-zoom. Smart.
22. Safari: Stopping a scroll. After flicking a page to get it to scroll, you can tap the page at any time to stop that movement. Don't forget, you can also manually drag the screen display to reset the part you're viewing.
23. Safari: Manual zoom. This is probably one of the most-advertised Safari features (along with the flip-the-phone-on-its-side-trick) but it's worth mentioning again. To zoom into a Safari page, put your thumb and forefinger on the screen and move them apart. To zoom out, pinch the fingers together after starting with them apart.
24. Safari: Examining the URL. To peek at a link's destination, touch and hold the link for a few seconds. You can also do this with images to see if they are linked. If a link appears and you don't want to activate it, just slide your finger away until the destination text disappears.
25. Safari: Well just point your iPhone browser to a Video on google video and choose download for iPod/PSP and you can watch it right there in safari. This also shows that you can also watch videos in the vertical position not just landscape.
26. Bookmarks: Create a separate folder / section for all your iPhone web sites. This makes is easy to locate them while browsing the we on your iPhone.
27. iPhoto / Photos: Create an Album (folder) called iPhone Wallpaper and load up your favorite 320x480 wallpapers. This makes it very easy to pick a new wallpaper on your iPhone.
28. Address Book: Create several subgroups, this can speed up the location of a contact given the lack of an actual search function. I use Work, Family, iPhone and it automatically puts the All Contacts group. Unfortunately I do not know how to do this on a PC. Hopefully someone can post.
29. Web Usage: If your favorite 'news' sites offer an RSS feed, bookmark and use that on your iPhone (not update your bookmarks because your iPhone will need to revise the link and use the .mac reader). This can make browsing, even while on EDGE much faster.
30. Force Quit: To actually close (or Quit) an application, HOLD the Home button for about 4-8 seconds while in the application. Apparently this will save battery usage and will also keep it cooler.
